What Do You Think?

What do you think about dogs riding in truck beds? They might look like they are having the time of their life, but aren't they also in serious danger? Should this be illegal on interstates, on all major roadways too, or are crates the answer? What should we do here in the Lowcountry to make traveling by car safer for our pets? Tell us your thoughts by posting your comments below! Not sure what to think and need more info? Read the
Humane Society's official stance here regarding both truck bed travel and the numerous companies that make truck bed harnesses for dogs.

Totally unsafe. I hate to see dogs in the backs of trucks. I'm always afraid they are going to be thrown out.

It makes me very upset. I know the pets owners love their pets since they seem to take them everywhere, but I don't understand why they don't see the danger in placing them in the back of their trucks!!!! If we as motorists can get pulled over and fined for not wearing our seatbelts, then why can't these motorists be fined as well???

The danger is incredible. The dog could fly out of the truck bed if the driver has to hit the breaks. Also, there is the flying debris. I don't think that dogs are having the time of their lives when they are being thrown around in the back of a dangerous truck. I think the excitement that one observes is actually anxiety.
The practice of letting a non-crated dog ride in the back of a pick up truck should be illegal. I hope that the laws will soon be created to protect dogs from the stupidity of their owners.

I totally agree with the previous. All that pacing back and forth at the red light is definitely more anxiety than excitement. I thought that article that Leah posted, the Humane Society's "Why Dogs and Pickup Trucks Don't Mix", made some great points.
